How to NOT Worry
One of the hardest things for me to obey GOD in is, “Do not be afraid” and “Be not anxious;” yet these are commands of His, so I strive to look for ways to please Him in this area.
I’d like to share some things that have helped and do help, and you may want to share also. I will try to make this as short as possible.
First of all, I believe it is important to realize, anxiety is sin; because GOD tells us not to do it. I must say, I was absolutely shocked when the Lord revealed that to me for the first time. Great news is, If I confess my sins, GOD is faithful and just to forgive me my sins and to cleanse me from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9
*Petition means: to pray on behalf of others. Supplication means: asking or pleading for something humbly and earnestly.
I was just reading in Proverbs 8:30-33 that tells us we are daily GOD’s delight when we a.) rejoice always before Him, and b.) when we delight in people. In Romans 5, He teaches us to rejoice in sufferings, in hope we will see the glory of GOD in it all. I pray nothing you and I suffer will be wasted. The prideful say, “I can handle this myself.” But “GOD resists the proud;” (that is, He holds up a stiff arm to them); “but gives grace to the humble.” Who are the humble? "Jesus humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death; even the death of the Cross." Philip. 2.
In I Peter 5:6, 7 He tells us the humble cast all their cares over on Him “for He cares for you.”
After we cast them over on Him, how do we not take our worry back up and carry it around? This is so good: Philippians 4:6,7 “Be anxious about nothing, but (instead) in everything by prayer and petition/supplication with thanksgiving (that’s the secret) let your requests be made known unto GOD (not to everyone in your contacts), then (after that), the peace of GOD which passes all understanding will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Now, most of us have got the “prayer and supplication” down; but if we fail to know that what we prayed just now was His will, then we can’t say, “Thank You it’s done” at the end of our prayer, and that’s when we carry the weight of it around with us even after talking to GOD about it. Reason is, that’s all we did is talk to Him about it, instead of casting it over on Him for it to be His burden now.
Isaiah 38:14 says, “Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove; my eyes fail with looking up O Lord, I am oppressed; undertake for me.”
Since “Faith works by love;” then I know I’ll trust Him the more I know Him. Because, the more I know Him, the more I can’t help but love Him, right? The best way I have found in my own life to not be anxious, is to seek the Scriptures till I find a Verse or Verses that speak to that situation, so I’ll know what to believe and think on during the situation. For instance, when I was going in for an operation one morning, trying not to be anxious, and told myself, “You’re in GOD’s Hand and He’s not going to drop you.” That helped; but when I asked GOD to speak to me specifically and opened up His Word, He so comforted me with Isaiah 41:10 so I could walk away believing He was going to help me, so I didn’t have to be afraid because He said not to. Yesterday I had a frightening experience, dangerous too, but I cried out to Him, He put this Verse on my heart, so I said it a few times so that no other thought could come in during the circumstance, and He got me through with flying colors. The Verse was Philippians 4:19, 20. It will help you too if you’ll keep it tucked away in your heart.
