The Lord’s Prayer
With The Lord's help, to the best of my ability with Him, I would like to break down the prayer Jesus gave us in Matthew 6:5-13. First off Jesus was telling them in verse 5 not to pray with wrong intentions, to be heard or seen by people. He said to pray in secret, "And your Father Who sees in secret will reward you openly." Note: Just think, one thing that will live on after we have lived out our life, is our prayers, so know what the will of The Lord is, and pray it, pray it.
Okay, starting with verse 9: "Our Father Whom art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name." Jesus is telling us, start our prayer by acknowledging Who we're talking to. Sometimes I'll start texting someone, and The Lord will nudge me to say, "People like it when you say their name, acknowledge them." When we say, "Whom art in Heaven" we are admitting GOD sits over all the earth and all its happenings. He knows all, and sees all. Instead of saying, "Hallowed be Thy Name," in our own words He just wants us to be reminded, and for us to remind the devil, GOD, Your Name is above every other name! Your Name is holy, and beautifully set-apart from all others! "Thy kingdom come." Psalm 103:19 says "The Lord has prepared His throne in the heavens; and His kingdom rules over all." Another verse says, "The kingdom of The Lord is not meat nor drink; but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit." So we are saying, "Father, You rule and reign here! Your rightness, Your Peace, and Your Joy govern my life, and the lives of Your people." (We are not to pray just for ourselves.)
"Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven." We can miss GOD's plan for our lives, by getting into our own will, what we want. So when we pray this, we better mean it when we say, "Your will be done in our will, so Your plan is accomplished in our lives, and through us our Lord." "Give us this day our daily bread." We have both a physical body, and a spiritual one, so we are asking GOD, "I ask for enough food for us and our family to live physically, and that we may live and grow spiritually, I ask You to lead us to the Words today we need in order to know You better, and love each one in our path today more. "And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors." Again, we have physical debts (bills; people we owe money to) and spiritual debts. He tells us to "Owe no man anything except to love one another." When I pray, "Forgive our debts, as we forgive," I see it as, "Forgive me my sins against anyone, as I right now forgive anyone I feel owes me for a wrong they did against me." In verse 15 of Matthew 6, Jesus tells us we cannot be forgiven until we forgive. We can address that another time. Turn them over to GOD and let Him deal with them, or else you will be in trouble with GOD, and you don't want that!
"And lead us, not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." Psalm 95:6-11 GOD tells them not to harden their heart and tempt and try Him as they erred in their heart in the wilderness. Time does not allow me to expound on this.
"For Thine is the kingdom" (the rule, the rightness, the peace and joy in the Holy Spirit), "and the power" Philipians 2:13,14 "For it is GOD Who works in you both to be willing and to do of His good pleasure. Do all things without murmuring and disputing." Right here is a good place to pray, "Where I am not willing to follow Your lead Lord, work in me to be willing."
"And the glory forever." Every good thing comes from GOD. What do we have in us that is good that we did not receive of Him. He will not share His glory, (the credit) with another. Our Father is so worthy of praise, of thanks, of our "Yes Lord." Amen
I pray this helps somebody!
