I wonder if you ever think about your happiest moments
in your childhood?
One of my happiest memories I like to think upon is, each year at Christmas time. I’m not talking about just “Christmas Day;” but all during the last couple of weeks of December each year. It started one year when our parents got home from shopping, and we knew they weren’t grocery bags they were hauling off to their bedroom. My older brother (by one year) got an idea: he said the next time our parents went anywhere, we should go to their room
and find it: THE PLACE.
When my brother told me his plan, well of course you know I immediately corrected him for thinking such a thought. The nerve of going in our parent’s room and invading their privacy like that by searching high and low for THE PLACE! What an absurd idea! I loved it though! So, at first chance, I was right there with him scoping out the room until, aha! There it was: THE PLACE. It was in their closet, tucked underneath Mother’s long robe and dresses. It was like the biggest high of the century the first time we found the presents. From then on, it was just the biggest high of the year,
but we so looked forward to it.
Now, you might think it ruined the surprise, knowing what we were getting ahead of time; but it was soooo FUN for us because it gave us something to plan for and to look forward to. I remember one year seeing these ugly little dolls and hoping they were for my little sister ten years younger, and not for me. There were about three or four of them about as tall as my hand is now, and they each had a different facial expression. They were like “mood” dolls or something like that. One was smiling this dorky smile; another was crying real big crockigator tears; another looked mad. Maybe there were only three, I can’t remember. When I got those ugly dolls for one of my presents, I Iaughed out loud because I deserved them for sneaking a peek and meeting them before my time. They ended up being one of my favorite gifts because they made me laugh every day. If I walked into my room and was crying, I’d go get the crying doll and lay down and cry with her. If I was angry, I’d go get the angry doll and pout with her, and so on. I felt like they understood. HA!
I just got to thinking: If I wasn’t a child of GOD, my story would just end there. I thank GOD it doesn’t!
My brother and I so looked forward to this season each year so we could know ahead of time what gifts were ours. That’s kind of the same feeling I get about Heaven: we don’t know everything we’re getting; but we get to know ahead of time some of what’s going to be there. II Peter 3:13: But we look forward to what God has promised: a new heaven and a new earth; a place where everything that has God's approval, lives.
At the beginning of John 14, Jesus told us not to let our hearts be troubled or afraid. He told us, “I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
“And the way you know.” Many people are telling us the way to get to Heaven is changing. They are saying the opposite of what Jesus told us, so please be careful not to believe it. They are saying the way to Heaven is getting wider and wider: “more and more types of people are going to get to go in.” Don’t be deceived dear ones! Jesus told us, “Wide is the gate that leads to destruction, and many go that way (infact, the majority.) “but narrow is the way that leads to everlasting life in Heaven with GOD, and few there are who find it.” I encourage you, find the truth, and sell it not. Hold on to it and don’t lose it,
for it will lead you Home,
to THE PLACE.
