Was That Really God?
I want you to know this was the most difficult devotion I have shared lately, but had to obey the leading I felt I was supposed to do from GOD's Heart.
Remember when Jesus went to the blind man in John 9:1-8 As Jesus went along, He saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, I must do the works of Him Who sent Me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” After saying this, Jesus spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. “Go,” He told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.
His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, “Isn’t this the same man who used to sit and beg?”
Do you feel GOD calling you to do something that doesn’t make any sense? Jesus healed some with a word, or a touch; even the very saliva of our Lord and Savior has power; but if the man had not obeyed Jesus, he would not have ever been able to see. GOD wants to do such mighty works in you, in me, that other people would say, "Hey! Wasn't that so and so who used to do such and such? WOW! Have they ever changed." GOD does the changing as we simply yield to Him.
We can win, or forfeit our own blessings!
I remember very clearly the first time I experienced GOD urging me in my spirit to not do something: I was volunteering at a hospital, and before going home, I got a tray at the cafeteria, and asked for “Fries, and iced-tea.”
In my spirit, The Lord said, “You don’t need the French fries” as He tugged on my spirit not to eat them. Immediately I heard the other voice in my spirit say, “Was that really GOD?”
I don't know if GOD really cared about me eating the fries, or if He was just teaching me obedience to His Voice, His leading, b/c fries didn't seem to be a problem later on. Genesis 3 The devil said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” 2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ” Note: And her and Adam did die spiritually. (Please stay with me.)
I don’t remember if I obeyed GOD or not that day: I sure hope I did! Since that day though, He (being my King and authority of my life) began teaching me if I wanted to be His “disciple” and not one who follows Him from afar, that I would need to heed what was best for me in order to glorify Him and finish all He gave me to do.
“A servant is not greater than his Master” He said; then continued, “Jesus humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death; even the death of the Cross.” So who am I not to do the same? This is the only way I have ever been able to obey something difficult from The Lord, is to humble myself and become obedient. Often times it requires fasting (abstaining from food and drink in order to feed my spirit man, and listen better.)
We don’t fast to get GOD to move; but to get us to move OUT OF THE WAY.
David said, “I humble my soul with fasting and they insult me for doing so.” Psalms 69:10. And Ezra 8:21 Ezra proclaimed a fast “that we might humble ourselves before GOD.” GOD stopped calamity from coming on Ahab’s house because Ahab humbled himself before GOD. (I Kings 21-29.)
"God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble" (James 4:6.)
GOD said to me, If good people turn bad and don't listen to my warning, they will die. If you did not warn them of the consequences, then they will die in their sins. Their previous good deeds won't help them, and I will hold you responsible, demanding your blood for theirs. But if you warn them and they repent, they will live, and you will have saved your own life, too." Ezekiel 3:20, 21
The Lord Himself taught how the righteous can prevent their own spiritual death:
I tell you the truth, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death. (John 8:51)
