Will you not be Afraid of the Power?

Have you ever had someone to scar your reputation with a lie, and you couldn't do anything to prove your innocence? It is a frightening place to be in because it leaves you very vulnerable, and your reputation is at stake. "A good name is better to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor is better to be chosen than silver or gold." Proverbs 22:1
I told this Scripture at jail last week and it was most troubling when one young woman began to laugh as she said, “With a life like most of us, we don’t care what our reputation is: it doesn’t matter at this point.” That was really sad to me, because GOD can refurbish a broken life, change your name in the heavenly’s, take out your heart of stone and do a transplant, giving you a brand new soft heart that wants to love, wants to forgive, wants to know GOD more than anything you’ve ever desired in your life. O, I pray we got the truth of that across.
So, what does GOD say our response should be? Or, should we respond when someone puts a blot on our name?
First of all, is what someone said true or false? This is one reason I believe we are to fear GOD, is because He knows our conscience. In Romans 13: 1-5 we are told to submit ourselves to the overseer of our soul, and to all authority, for GOD has put them in authority over us, and whatever they show, whether it be kindness, or a sword, all are in the Lord’s Hand. “Will you not be afraid of the power?” Verses 3, 4 tells us, if we do good, we will have praise of the same; “for he is the minister of GOD to you for good; but if you do what is wrong, be afraid, for he bears the sword not in vain, but is a minister of GOD to execute wrath upon the one who does wrong instead of right.”
Have you noticed when you dwell on the wrong thoughts instead of obeying the Lord to “Think on these things…” (Philipians 4) then your mind is filled with turmoil?  I have experienced this more than once. There is a reason for this: “Tribulation and anguish upon ever mind, will, and emotion who does the wrong thing, instead of what is right.”

Then in verse 8, He tells us to “Owe no man anything except to love one another; for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.”
Romans 12:19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”  I love Philemon 18 where Paul teaches Philemon (and us) “If anyone has wronged you, put that on my account.” Woowee, that’s powerful stuff!!

In Romans 16:17, we are told to "Mark those who cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which you have learned; and avoid them." I Cor. 1:8 GOD lets us know He desires that we “be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Amen.
